I've moved my discussion group from Delphi to Nick Locking's VHive. Other than having to re-register, this shouldn't make much difference to you at all. We're still discussing comics, animation, media, politics and anything else that pops into our collective head.

DWAYNE MCDUFFIE WRITES FANTASTIC FOUR

Courtesy Comics Continuum:

Dwayne McDuffie, producer of the Justice League Unlimited animated series, is writing his first story for Marvel Comics in more than a decade in December's Fantastic Four Special.
"I was thrilled when Tom Brevoort asked me to pitch in on the Special and I jumped at the chance. I've always had a soft spot for the Fantastic Four," McDuffie told The Continuum. "It's my first script for Marvel Comics in 13 years but it's like meeting old friends you've been out of touch with for ages and miraculously picking up right where you left off without missing a beat."
Here's how Marvel describes the the story, titled "My Dinner with Doom:"
"It's a day of celebration and reflection in Latveria, but deep within the confines of the Latverian Embassy to America, Victor Von Doom and Reed Richards engage in a subtle battle of wits, with all of Manhattan as the playing field. What are the stakes? And can Mister Fantastic triumph when all of the moves have been made in advance?"
The art for the story is by Casey Jones. The book will also feature a Franklin Richards back-up and a cover by Leinil Francis Yu.

JLU News

Courtesy Comics continuum:

Raphael Sbarge is providing the voice of Deadman in an upcoming episode of Cartoon Network's Justice League Unlimited, The Continuum has learned.

Sbarge, 41, was a regular on CBS' The Guardian and recently appeared on C.S.I: NY (see series photo of Sbarge with Gary Sinise to the left). He had recurring roles on Star Trek: Voyage and The Pretender. His voice work includes Carth Onasi in two Star Wars video games. Deadman is appearing in an episode called "Dead Reckoning," which has yet to be scheduled by Cartoon Network.

Here's how the episode is described: "The ghost of a circus performer convinces Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman to help him retrieve the stolen souls of a mystic order of Monks."

JLU Returns on Sept 17

Well, it's all over the internet, so I guess I'd better post it here. Justice League Unlimited returns to Cartoon Network for its third season on Saturday, September 17 at 10:00 PM EST. I've seen several variations of show titles and log lines, the ones that follow are correct.

Saturday, Sept. 17: "I Am Legion" - Lex Luthor escapes from a maximum security prison, only to be invited to join Grodd's unstoppable Legion of Doom.

"Shadow of the Hawk" - Batman is suspicious of Shayera's new boyfriend, a mysterious archeologist with sinister ties to her Thanagarian past.

Saturday, Sept. 24: "Chaos At The Earth's Core" - Supergirl, Stargirl and Green Lantern go to Skartaris, the fantastic, hidden world at the Earth¹s core, to help free it from the rule of a brutal dictator.

"To Another Shore" - Wonder Woman stumbles onto a plot to steal the powers hidden inside the 3000-year-old, frozen remains of the legendary hero, the Viking Prince.

San Diego Comicon JLU Panel

L to R: Story Editor Matt Wayne, Producers Shaun McLaughlin, James Tucker, Me, and Bruce Timm.

Courtesy Comics Continuum:

SAN DIEGO -- A preview clip for the next season of Justice League Unlimited show at Comic-Con International on Friday revealed a big development: the Legion of Doom. In the clip, which starts the new season, Lex Luthor breaks out of jail. When apparently trapped by the police, he miraculously is pulled through a wall. He is then taken to meet Gorilla Grodd, who shows him a familiar-looking building -- and then it's revealed that at least two dozen villains are in it.

"We kind of took a page with what we did with Justice League Unlimited," producer Bruce Timm said, "where we opened the ranks of the Justice League to include basically everybody. So now the villains are going to say, 'Hey, we're going to do that, too.' There's going to be a lot of Legion of Doom goodness throughout next
season.

"Standalone episodes as well that don't completely focus on the Legion of Doom and some that just touch on the Legion of Doom. "We have lots of major guest-stars next season. We had the whole Green Lantern/Vixen/Hawkgirl triangle, which is really complicated. We figured we needed to resolve that and we resolved that by making it more complicated. It gets really complicated when Shayera meets this young archeologist named Carter Hall.

"So we've got lots of interesting twists and turns and lots of Legion."

Speaking of another Legion, Timm also noted that the Legion of Super-Heroes will appear next season.

In other highlights from the Justice League portion of the JLU/The Batman panel:

* The episode "Divided We Fall," which debuts on Cartoon Network on
Saturday, was shown in a widescreen format.
* Asked about a Justice League Unlimited movie, Timm said, "We talked
a lot about doing a straight-to-video JLU movie. Maybe someday, but
right now I don't think there's anything definitive happening with
that."
* Asked if events in the comics DC Universe have any impact on the
show, Timm said, "I don't know. We weren't really planning on using
Sue Digby anyways. She's a little extra crispy now."
* Story editor Matt Wayne said an upcoming episode will feature the
Seven Soldiers.
* Stargirl will appear next season.
* Producer Dwayne McDuffie said Hawkgirl was his favorite character
to write.
* About the much-ballyhooed ban on use of Batman supporting
characters or villains, Timm said, "I'm not finding it's a big
problem. There's lot of villains -- a Legion of them."

The News Page is Up and Running Again

Okay. The temporary news page is up, with a two year gap in news items. Also I need to teach my search engine how to find these posts. Also I need to make it not quite so ugly. Ahem.

Anyway, news will begin appearing here again starting later today.
Dwayne McDuffie News Bear with me, I'm trying to turn this old blog into a temporary news page, but so far it's not working.
